Knights JV and Varsity Wrestling Awards

Tuesday, May 2nd the West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville wrestlers met for the final act of the 2016-17 season. The end of the season banquet and awards.
Following a highly succesful campaign accolades fell heavy on the Knight wrestlers but before any personal honors are mentioned let us recap the season. The Knights finished their year with an impressive 25-3 dual record. Along the way the group took 1st place at the Grant County Tournament, 4th place at Big Bear, 1st place at the KMS duals, 1st place at the LPGE-B Duals, 1st place at the Park Region Conference Tournament, Conference Dual Champions, 1st place at the Morris Invite, Section 6A Team Champions and 1st place at the Section Individual Tournament and 4th place at the MSHSL State Dual Tournament.
The Knights were coached this year by Head Coach Brandon Gruchow (Conference, Section and State Coach of the Year Honors), and assisted by Andrew Peterson, Troy Lohse and Logan Nibbe.
The Minnesota State Tournament Team consisted of Chase Veldhouse, Bret Duncan, Devin Stone, Alex Butcher, Hunter Hanson, Ashton Danner, Zach Mattson, Mason Nibbe, John Barber, Wyatt Olson, Levi Larkin, Tyler Onstad, Keaton Long, Kaden Spindler, Hunter Mickelsen, Chris Onstad, Jake Nohre, Drake Swanson, Kaleb Getz and Jordan Lohse.
Nine Knights reached the state tournament individually: 106 lb. Jordan Lohse, 113 lb. Kaleb Getz, 120 lb. Drake Swanson, 126 lb. Jake Nohre (State Runner Up), 145 lb. Kaden Spindler (5th place), 152 lb. Keaton Long (State Runner Up), 160 lb. Tyler Onstad, 170 lb. Levi Larkin (6th place), and 220 lb. Mason Nibbe.
Other Individual State honors include Mason Nibbe All State Academic Team, Keaton Long and Tyler Onstad chosen to the Wells Fargo State All Tournament Team, Keaton Long and Jake Nohre were both chosen as MSHSL All State Wrestlers for the 2016 season.
The Knights shine as well in the classroom as they do on the mat taking home another Team Academic Gold Award. 28 members of last seasons team earned the Spotlight on Scholarship Award by maintaining grade point average of 3.0 or higher the recipients are as follows: Jordan Lohse, Kaleb Getz, Drake Swanson, Chris Onstad, Hunter Mickelsen, Kaden Spindler, Tyler Onstad, Levi Larkin, Wyatt Olson, John Barber, Mason Nibbe, Keaton Long, Kade Olson, Reubens Swanson, Hunter Hanson, Austin Mattson, Devin Benson, Connor Nadgwick, Bret Duncan, Aiden Winter, Ashton Danner, Shad Swanson, Colton Lindquist, Deklin Goeden, Lilly Swanson, Ryanne Long, Lexi Danner, Amber Drechsel, and Kjersten Nibbe.
2016 Letterwinners for the Knights include Jordan Lohse, Kade Olson, Kaleb Getz, Drake Swanson, Jake Nohre, Chris Onstad, Hunter Mickelsen, Kaden Spindler, Keaton Long, Tyler Onstad, Levi Larkin, Wyatt Olson, John Barber, Alex Butcher, Mason Nibbe, Zach Mattson, Devin Stone, Ryanne Long, Lexi Danner, and Lilly Swanson.
Perfect Attendance Recognition went to Tyler Onstad, Chris Onstad, Jake Nohre, Mason Nibbe, Levi Larkin, and Jordan Lohse.
The Knights will graduate five seniors who will leave some big shoes to fill. The following are the graduates followed by their career records: Drake Swanson (Captain) 109-35, Jake Nohre (Captain) 182-36, Keaton Long (Captain) 125-44, Tyler Onstad (Captain) 138-95 and Zach Mattson 19-22.
Junior Varsity Awards all went to the same person, Deklin Goeden earned the ' JV Most Improved', 'JV Hardest Worker' and 'JV Most Valuable Wrestler'.
Varsity Awards went as follows: 'Rookie Wrestler of the Year' Jordan Lohse, 'Most Improved' Zach Mattson, 'Spirit Award' Tyler Onstad, 'Hardest Worker' Jake Nohre, 'Most Valuable Wrestler' Jake Nohre and 'Statistician Award' Lexi Danner.
