Lady Arrows Season Ends

by Coach Chad Koep
The Ashby Arrow softball team traveled to Fergus Falls to take on the Hillcrest Comets in the first round of Section 6A playoffs Tuesday evening, May 23.
Starting pitchers for each team got things going early as they were both able to retire the first 3 batters faced in their half of the 1st inning. The Comets, however, were able to bring across the only run in the first 4 innings for either team in the bottom of the 2nd as Anna Newman scored on a 2-out base-hit by Hanna Lavin.
"Josey Ness and Nicole Dekok were really in the zone today pitching for their respective teams. It was a lot of fun watching them do their thing in the pitching circle today," said Arrows Head Coach Chad Koep.
Ness recorded 7 strikeouts through 4 innings of work while Dekok fanned 6 Arrows in the same span.  The Comets were able to get their offense rolling in the 5th inning getting 3 runs across the plate led by a 2-run double, that nearly cleared the left field fence, by Tara Ferenczy.
This was all the run support that Dekok needed as she added 3 more strikeouts to her stat line giving her 9 K's in her complete game shut-out. The Comets went on to win the game by a score of 4-0.
"Comparing how we played earlier in the season to how we finished up tonight was really amazing to be a part of," continued Koep. "The Lady Arrows made some pretty significant gains up to this point and I'm so proud of what we were able to accomplish in such a short period of time. We know that the off-season is the starting point for getting to where we want to be next year. It's time to pick ourselves up and get right back to work so that next season, we can continue where we left off. These girls are going to be a tough team to beat next year!"
The Arrows were led offensively by Ness, Courtney Koefod, and Mikayla Dahlen who each recorded a hit. The defensive standout was Ness pitching 6 innings while recording 7 strikeouts and allowed 4 runs off of 6 hits.
