Celebrating The Fourth In Style

by Winnie Thompson
Despite gloomy weather, the annual Red, White and Blue Parade of youngsters was a decided success.
This was the 19th parade, which began in 1998 when Ruth Benson of Benson’s DayCare brought forth the youngsters in her care to parade around her yard, in all their glory, with a lunch served to all afterward. This has evolved into the parade being hosted by various daycare providers in the area, parading in strollers, on bikes, in all their finery, to go to the city park, where a kid-friendly lunch was served to one and all.
The Grand Marshal this year was Joanie Aamot with a selection of celebrities as well.
The Ashby Lions returned again to host the supper consisting of hot dogs, beans, a fresh fruit cup, ice cream and beverage. The park was filled almost to capacity with kids from infants to grandmothers.
Despite the lack of sunshine, an invisible sun shown across the Ashby City Park on Wednesday evening, June 28.
