Knights Gridmen Defeated By Barnesville Trojans

Friday, September 15th in Barrett, the West Central Area/Ashby Knights hosted a football game with the #5 ranked Barnesville Trojans. Although the Trojans won the contest in handy fashion at 21- 0 there were some upsides for the Knights. Following the game summary we will look into those positives which possibly may aid in rebounding our 1-2 team. Play opened with the Knights kicking off. When the first kick went out of bounds Barnesville would opt to re kick instead of taking the free yardage. To the Knights chagrin, that decision proved costly as Sr. Brady Martz (RB) fielded the ball and took it 80 yards to pay dirt. Jr. Placekicker Firmian Elsholz scored on the PAT kick. The next score would come at 11:54 in the 2nd stanza on a 27 yard romp by Soph. (RB) Jackson Wahl. The kick after by Elsholz was good. The final point of the half, and game, came at 5:13 in the quarter on another Martz score as he broke loose on a sweep to the right and dashed 85 yards to the end zone. Elsholz again made good on the kick after. Offensively the Knights actually moved a ball, the stat sheet may not show it that way at only 169 yards and six first downs in 58 offensive attempts but 105 yards from 13 penalties will quickly take away forward momentum. There is a reason why penalties are called drive killers. The pass game never did open up as the Knights managed just 41 yards through the air but Sr (QB) Ross Anderson delivered some good balls to his receivers. The o-line provided better time this week…
