DeLoris Adele Jacobson

DeLoris Adele Jacobson, 89, a resident of Fergus Falls (formerly of Underwood), died Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at LB Broen Home in Fergus Falls. Visitation was 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2018, with a 5:30 p.m. public prayer service, at the Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church. Services were 1 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Tordenskjold Free Lutheran Church, Underwood with Reverends Mark Johnson and Dan Hurner. Interment was in Tordenskjold Cemetery, rural Underwood.
She was born on February 1, 1929, in Fergus Falls, to Willmer and Alice (Skalstad) Leitch. DeLoris was baptized and confirmed at Rindal Church. She grew up on farms in Everts and Sverdrup Townships, and in 1933, the family moved to rural Pelican Rapids where she started school at District 288, rural Erhard.  In 1936, they moved to Everts Township, graduating from Battle Lake High School in 1946. DeLoris attended teachers training at the old Lincoln School in Fergus Falls, completing the course in 1947.  She later received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Moorhead State.
August 2, 1947, DeLoris married Richard J. Jacobson at the Rindal Church, rural Underwood. The couple made their home on a farm south of Underwood. The couple traveled extensively and traveled to all 50 states.
DeLoris taught elementary grade school for 36 years in the Underwood and Ashby School Districts.  She completed her career at Underwood School, retiring in 1986. DeLoris loved reading, gardening, and embroidery.  She was a committed member to Tordenskjold Free Lutheran Church, and the Dalton Auxiliary. DeLoris was a devoted aunt, attending numerous family events.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Richard in 2007; brother, Wilfred “Biff” Leitch; brothers-in-law, John Jacobson, Kenneth Jacobson, Earl Jacobson, Ralph Jacobson; sister-in-law, Mabel Jacobson; niece, Nancy Seeba; nephew, John Jacobson; and a grand-nephew, Alvin Seeba.
Survivors include her brothers, Willmer (Marie) Leitch Jr. of Fergus Falls, Vernon (Mary Ann) Leitch of St. Cloud; sister-in-law, Lillian Jacobson of Fergus Falls; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.
Memorials are preferred to the Tordenskjold Cemetery Fund.  A special thanks to the LB Homes staff for the wonderful care she received.
