Susan Cooksey Macheledt

Susan Cooksey Macheledt, known to her friends and family as Su Mac, passed away at home Monday, April 2nd, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family and the comforts of home during her last hours.
Susan was born in Minneapolis, MN October 17th, 1956 to Phyllis and William Cooksey; sisters, Cathy Nault and Janet Horn. Su grew up in St. Louis Park and graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where she met her husband, Matthew Mac-heledt III of Battle Lake, MN. They were married August 7th, 1976; parents-in-law, Joan and Matthew Macheledt Jr; bothers-in-law, Tim and Peter Macheledt.
Matthew and Su made New Richmond, WI, their home for the last 30 years where they raised their daughter, Kaitlyn Macheledt.
Su was a special education teacher for New Richmond School District and spent each summer in Battle Lake with her daughter and husband. Battle Lake was the shining light in her year. She loved being on the lake, connecting with the community and serving the arts. She spent many years organizing the Wenonga Days kiddie parade and was a showing artist and member of the Art of the Lakes Association. She took pride in her family’s connection to the association; her grandmother-in-law, Esther Wallin was a founding member and Su made sure her daughter understood this heritage.
Su found great joy in the arts and spending time with friends and family whom she cherished. Her creativity, caring nature and candor touched many lives and she will be missed by many.
Per Su’s requests, close friends and family will be invited to a Celebration of Life Ceremony in mid-June at the family cabin.
