Keith Duane Fletcher – Battle Lake

Keith Duane Fletcher passed away peacefully Sunday,  June 17, 2018 at the age of 85. Keith was born in 1933 in Clitherall, MN, one of nine children of Elmer and Christine Fletcher.
Keith decided to quit school during his senior year in high school because, at the time, he hated school with a passion. He joined the US Army shortly after leaving school, and was eventually sent to Alaska where he met and married Martha Hunt, his wife of 65 years.
After his tour of duty ended, Keith returned to school and, despite his lack of high school diploma, he was accepted into college where he earned a Bachelor of Education degree. The man who had once hated school continued his post graduate education in special education, psychology, counseling, and eventually became a Teacher, Special Education Director, School Psychologist, and a School Principal. Keith also returned to school in Bellingham, WA where he earned a Masters degree in education.
Keith and Martha moved around considerably during his teaching career and eventually lived in Wolf Point, Montana where Keith fulfilled his childhood dream and obtained his private pilots license. He also enjoyed playing polo and even took downhill skiing lessons at age 57. Keith used to say the only thing he broke when learning to ski was two pairs of glasses.
Following their retirement in 1999, Keith and Martha settled in Battle Lake, MN. Despite being declared legally blind, Keith continued to do the things he enjoyed – golfing, bicycling, square dancing, swimming, fishing, and playing the card game – dirty board – with Marty and their friends. He never let his vision deficiency prevent him from doing what he loved and he always maintained a positive attitude.
Keith loved his family and looked forward to family reunions or any chance to spend time with his family. In addition to his wife, Martha, Keith had two children, Danetta Menden Hall and Aaron Fletcher. He also has 5 grandchildren Dion Riss, Gabriel VanBoven, Travis Fletcher, Lacey Fletcher, and Gabrielle Hardy. Keith has 7 great-grandchildren, Harrison Riss, Amelia Riss, Zachary Fletcher, Tristan Fletcher, Maddox Fletcher, Brooklyn Hardy and Anastasia Hardy.
A celebration of life for Keith will be for family and friends Monday, August 6th, 2018 at the Fletcher home in Battle Lake, MN from 12 p.m.-5 p.m.
The people at Good Samaritan Society in Battle Lake, MN took excellent care of Keith in his final days. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Good Samaritan Society on behalf of Keith Fletcher.
