Kvam Lutheran Church Notes 150th

Sunday, July 15th the Kvam Church celebrated their 150th year anniversary. The morning worship was at 10:30 with a fellowship dinner following. Rev. Lyndon Korhonen, President of the AFLC was the speaker at the afternoon celebration service. A group of men from the parish sang, “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less”.

Former pastors, members and friends of the Kvam congregation shared remembrances. Following the celebration service, cake was served.

Left to right in front of the alter are Rev. David Skordahl, AFLC President Rev. Lyndon Korhonen, Rev. Wendell Johnson, Rev. Mark Johnson, Rev. Steve Carlson and Rev. Dan Hurner.

Note: Kvam was organized in 1868 and the first Lutheran Church to be established in Otter Tail County.

During the summer of 1869, Knute Quamme donated one acre and a fraction of land in St. Olaf Township to be used for a church and cemetery. The church was built the same year but the interior wasn’t complete until a few years later. The original church building still stands.

Congratulations to Kvam Church and their parishioners!
