John W. Matteson – Battle Lake

John W. Matteson, 85, of Battle Lake, Minnesota, passed away Friday, April 6, 2018, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.
A Celebration of Life in his honor will be from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the Shoreline Restaurant in Battle Lake. Family and friends are welcome.
Born in Flint, Michigan, John was a lifelong fan of Michigan football. He graduated from University of Illinois with a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in Zoology with a focus on Entomology. John met his wife, Anna-Marie Holladay Matteson, while at the University of Illinois. They were married October 26, 1958.
During his career, John worked for the USDA, Monsanto and 3M. He retired to Battle Lake at age 55 and spent his remaining years volunteering for the Minnesota DNR and other organizations. He was also an avid bowler, gardener and fisherman, and loved spending time with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Anna-Marie Holladay Matteson; his sons, Matthew and Mark (Joan) Matteson; daughter, Marie (Tom) Loughin; brother, Max (Ruth) Matteson II; and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Margaret Patterson Matteson and Max Richard Matteson.
