Congratulations to the Underwood Speech Team on winning 2nd place at the Section 6A Sub-Section 22 Speech Tournament that was in Underwood Friday, March 29.
The Rockets had 5 champions on the day. They are juniors Amy Worum in Extemporaneous Reading, Kindra Peterson in Extemporaneous Speaking and Sara Hansen in Great Speeches; sophomores Libby Nelson in Humorous Interpretation and Caroline Diaz-Lane in Storytelling.
Junior James Thompson was the Drama Interpretation runner-up.
Placing 4th were Lili Hermes in Extemporaneous Reading, Tyler Herr in Storytelling and the Duo team of Jaxon Rich and Kale Rich.
Place 6th medal winners were Cole Peterson in Discussion, Emma Marfell in Drama, Avery Knutson in Informative Speaking and Griffin Gunderson in Great Speeches.
Soren Floden placed 7th in Extemporaneous Speaking and is 1st alternate.
Speakers who placed in the top 6 advance to the Section Tournament Saturday, April 6th in Pillager.

Kensinger Named Coach Of The Year
The Battle Lake speech team had a very successful subsection tournament in Underwood Friday, March 29th by winning third place overall! The majority of the team is moving on to Sections with three champions of their categories and two members going as alternates!
Listed below are the team’s individual results. Places first through sixth move on to sections with seventh and eighth place being first and second alternates respectively.
Black Alonzo placed 7th in Drama, first alternate to Sections
Fern Brackin placed 1st in Original Oratory
Isaac Hallberg placed 1st in Drama
Sean Himmelspach placed 6th in Extemporaneous Speaking
Buddy Kolmeier placed 5th in Humor
Annika Lukken placed 7th in Prose, first alternate to Sections
Jasmine Malone placed 2nd in Creative Expression
Kelly Meers placed 1st in Poetry
Spencer Mekalson placed 6th in Prose
Madi Ness placed 3rd in Storytelling
Isaac Scherfenberg placed 4th in Discussion
Brian Seip placed 4th in Drama
Jamine Welder placed 3rd in Drama
Mrs. Kathy Kensinger also received the 2019 Coach of the Year Award
