Emmy Lou (Gunderson) Hanson – Bayport, MN

Emmy Lou Marlene (Gunderson) Hanson’s spirit left us to be with Jesus Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Bayport.
She was born April 13, 1933 to George B. and Emma Luvisa Gunderson, named after her mother and actress Marlene Dietrich which was quite emblematic of her ensuing life. Her grandparents, Karine and Knute Garlibakken were among the earliest pioneers of Lyon County.
She graduated from Minneota High School in 1951 and immediately flew off to The Cities finding a job at Lutheran Brotherhood. Al-most immediately, she was swept off her feet by Richard Hanson, in 1952 they married and lived in Richfield and Hopkins.
She worked at several jobs, was stay at home mother and retired from Hennepin County.
In 1972, Emmy and Dick bought lake property in Vining on East Battle Lake to be near her sisters and brothers during the summer.
Emmy Lou loved gardening (belonged to clubs), rummage sales, collecting anti-ques and Department 56 series.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emma and George Gunderson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis and Kern Donaldson of Minneota, Korrine and Clinton Rasmusson of Grand Ra-pids; and brother, George W. of Vining; Dick’s parents, Clarence and Edna Hanson; sister-in-law, Dorothy (Hanson); brother-in-law, Ken and wife, Betty Hanson and their daughter, Heidi Sue.
She leaves behind Rich-ard, her husband of 68 years; daughters, a son and their spouses: Jackie and Jim Hutchins, Jenny and George Gruber, Eric and Joni Hanson; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Christin and Carlos Curran, Lyric and Story; Caitlin and Victor Salas, Cora; Stephanie and Joe Beedle, Emmy Lou Olive; Anaya and Brad Walker, Torin and Anders Ole; Katrina, Connor, Sam and Estefani Hanson; brother, Jon and wife, Darlene Gunderson of Ottertail; sister-in-law, Dorothy Gunderson of Battle Lake;  brother-in-law and wife, Don and Janet Hanson; many nieces and nephews including Janet and Steve Widness of Clitherall, George E. Gunderson of Vining, Stacy Montella, Cathy and Tom DeCock of Ottertail, Jon M. Gunderson of Perham.
A brief service will be at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with luncheon at the pavilion in Bayport Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 11 a.m. Her ashes will be interred at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Mahtomedi.
