Alice Beda (Scott) Siira – Evansville, MN

Alice Beda (Scott) Siira was born January 25, 1922 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She was the first of six children born to Nels and Bertha (Steen) Scott. She grew up on a farm south of Battle Lake and graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1940. Alice went on to nursing school at the Minneapolis Vocational Hospital where she earned her LPN. After earning her LPN she worked in Fosston, MN. Her education continued at the Norwegian American School of Nursing in Chicago, IL where she earned her Registered Nursing Degree (RN) in 1947. While in Chicago she had training in the Cadet Corp but never served as the war ended. She moved back to Alexandria where she worked at St. Luke’s Hospital for a time and later transferred to the Douglas County Hospital as an RN. Alice met Wesley Siira of rural Brandon on a blind date and the couple was married February 14, 1951 at Trefoldighed Lutheran Church near Battle Lake. They honeymooned in Mexico while their new home was being built near Brandon. The couple was blessed with six children, William, Susan, Sally, Daniel, Thom-as and Jeffrey. Alice worked as a nurse at Douglas County Hospital before retiring in 1977. She later worked another year at Crestview Manor in Evansville. Alice enjoyed baking, knitting, crocheting, reading, and vegetable/flower gardening. She was very conservation minded. She also enjoyed being active in the farming life, providing meals and helping with farm work. Alice loved people and offering hospitality to those stopping by for a visit. Alice had a quick wit and a really good sense of humor. Most of all, she loved being with family and visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alice died Monday, October 4, 2021 at the Evansville Care Center in Evansville at the age of 99. She is survived by her children, Bill (Cathy) Siira of Brandon, Susan (Lyle) Westrom of Crookston, Sally Siira of Blaine, Tom (Marcia) Siira of Alexandria and Jeff (Sheri) Siira of Battle Lake; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Ella May Gorshe of Silverton, ID; sisters-in-law, Shirley Scott of Fergus Falls, Celine Siira of Culpeper, VA and Mary Siira of Peoria, IL; many nieces and nephews. Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Wesley; son, Daniel; parents, Nels and Bertha; sisters, Harriette Ewert and Olga Scott; brothers, Bernard and Anders Scott. A funeral service was 11 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2021 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Visitation was from 4-7 p.m. Friday, October 8, 2021 at the Anderson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service.
