Betty Mae Funkhouser – Evansville, MN

Betty Mae Funkhouser, 84, Evansville formerly Dalton, died Thursday, November 23, 2023 at Evansville Care Center. Betty was born on December 12, 1938 in Tumuli Township of rural Dalton to Alvin and Myrtle (Johnson) Foshaug. She attended District 7 Grade School in Tumuli Township and graduated in 1957 from Fergus Falls High School. October 25, 1958 Betty married Donald Funkhouser at Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church of rural Dalton. She was employed at Runnigan’s Café in Fergus Falls, Bostwicks, Dalton Café, and with Service Food and The Market for over 50 years, retiring in 2020. Betty was a member of Our Savior’s-Ten Mile Lake Ladies Aid. She enjoyed playing bingo, knitting, making lefse and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She especially loved playing with her great-grandchildren, Piper and Avery. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; sister and brother-in-law, Muriel and Otto Olson; brothers, Richard Foshaug and Stanley Foshaug; niece, Nancy Bordson; brother-in-law, Glen Herman; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Eileen and Burt Younger and Curt and Gloria Funkhouser; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Blanche and Frank Funk-houser. Betty is survived by her children, Jill (Peter) Swendsrud of Staples and Jason (Callie) Funkhouser of Ashby; grandchildren, Logan (Kaylee) Swendsrud of Little Falls, Jacob Swendsrud (Haley Christoffersen) of Pillager, Isaac Swendsrud (Kylie Bendson) of Park Rapids, Bailey (Danny) Yackley of Battle Lake and Benjamin (Natalie) Funk-houser of Dalton; great-grandchildren, Piper Yackley and Avery McGary; sister-in-law, Ardyce Foshaug of Evansville, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, June and John Kvam, Carol and Wayne Brendefur, Neal and Barb Funkhouser, all of Fergus Falls; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial service was 2 p.m. Monday, December 4, 2023 at Our Savior’s-Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church in Dalton, MN with Reverend Paul Snyder officiating. Visitation was one-hour prior to the service at the church. Interment was at Ten Mile Lake Cemetery of Dalton, MN. Arrangements provided by the Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls.
