Ardis Nelson-Hansen – Fergus Falls, MN

Ardis (Mortenson) Nelson-Hansen, 100, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Battle Lake. Ardis was born October 4, 1923 in Fergus Falls to Fred and Sarah (Carlsen) Mortenson and was raised in Underwood. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Sverdrup Lutheran Church in Underwood. She graduated from high school in 1941. She also graduated from the Minnesota School of Business. She married Russell W. Nelson April 19, 1943 at Sverdrup Lutheran Church. They had two children, Ronald W. and Cheryl A. They lived in various places including Osseo, Champlin and Dayton, MN. After retirement they moved to Fergus Falls where they were members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Ardis started her career in oil painting and she became a very accomplished artist of wildlife and landscapes. She belonged to the Art of the Lakes Gallery in Battle Lake. Many family and friends enjoyed her paintings and she participated in many art shows. When not painting Ardis enjoyed hunting, fishing and family events. After Russ passed away in 1993, she married Cullen Hansen November 15, 1995. They enjoyed several years together and did some traveling, including a trip to Denmark and Norway. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Sarah Mortenson; brother, Lowell Mortenson; and husbands, Russel Nelson and Cullen Hansen. Survivors include her son, Reverend Ron (Christine) Nelson of Ames, IA; daughter, Cheryl (Pat) Hammers of Dent; sister-in-law, Peggy Fosse of Maple Grove; seven grandchildren, Ingrid (Doug) Cohen, Matthew (Jennifer) Nelson, Lucas (Beth) Nelson, Annie (Jordan) Atterberry, Stephanie Hammers, Phil-lip (Kelly) Hammers and Sarah (Jed) Perkerewicz; 13 great-grandchildren; num-erous nieces and nephews. Visitation was 5-7 p.m., Friday, February 9, 2024 at Olson Funeral and Cremation in Fergus Falls with a time of sharing at 6:30 p.m. Visitation resumed one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service was 11 a.m. Saturday, February, 10, 2024 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls with Reverend Loren Mellum officiating. Interment was at Sverdrup Cemetery of Un-derwood, MN.
