Helen Haverberg, 99, long time resident of Madisonk, MN passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Good Samaritan Home in Battle Lake, MN. Helen Muriel Westby was born March 10, 1925 at the Westby Farm in Providence Township of Lac Qui Parle County, MN. Helen lost her parents at an early age and was adopted along with her brother, Albert Westby by their Uncle Christ Westby. She attended “country school” through the eighth grade and graduated from Dawson Public High School in 1943. She attended business school in Minneapolis and upon graduation returned to Dawson where she was employed as a secretary with the local law office. She met Gerald Haverberg in Dawson at a downtown cafe and they were married in 1946. They began their married life in Madison, MN. They moved to Seattle, WA for a few years and later returned to Madison where they purchased a farm east of Madison. Helen worked in the office of the Madison Dental Clinic for 30 years. Upon retirement Jerry and Helen spent winters in Arizona and Florida. They enjoyed travel and spent time in Europe and South America. They en-joyed spending time with family and friends at their Pickerel Lake cabin near Battle Lake. Helen and Jerry moved to their home on Western Avenue in Madison in 2008. Jerry passed away in January of 2012. Helen moved to the Battle Lake area in 2022. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Alice (Twite) Westby, and Christ Westby; brother, Albert Westby Jr.; husband, Gerald Haverberg; and infant daughter, Beth Helen. Helen is survived by her children: Steven Haverberg (Sylvia) of Auburn, CA; Mary Beth Anderson ( Rob) of Park Rapids and Gold Canyon, AZ; Kristi Everts (Peter) of Battle Lake and her AFS daughter, Mirna Sosa (Arnaldo) of Asuncion, Paraguay. Grandchildren: Eric Haverberg, Gregg (Heather) Haverberg, Brent (Kristi) Anderson, Ryan (Cheryl) Anderson, Jackson (Betsy) Everts and Molly (Robert) Johnston. Great-grandchildren: Gage, Dane, Lily, Teah, Dylan, Ellery, Blake, Chase and Westby. In life, Helen enjoyed entertaining friends and family, setting beautiful tables, collecting antiques, travel and fashion. Helen will be remembered as a loving Mother and Grandmother, gracious hostess, good friend and kind person. Helen was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church for most of her life. She was the Sunday School Superintendent for many years and always stayed active with her Circle and with her much loved “church family”. A Celebration of Life will be hosted by gamily at a later date at Faith Lutheran Church in Madison.
