Dale Bennie Sollin – Rugby, ND

Dale Bennie Sollin, the son of Benjaman “Bennie” and Florence (Jelsing) Sollin was born August 7, 1936 in Rugby, North Dakota. He died unexpectedly Saturday, February 17, 2024 in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at his home in Rugby, North Dakota. Dale was raised in Rugby and Tunbridge. He attended school south of Tunbridge for two years while his father was the elevator manager, then attended Rugby Public Schools up to the 8th grade. At that time, his family moved to Florence, South Dakota, where he graduated in 1954. He enjoyed playing high school sports and in Florence, and he met the love of his life, Doris Fae Valberg. In 1954, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. On his furlough, he came back to be united in marriage to Doris Valberg in Henry, South Dakota. His new bride visited him in Arkansas before he left for Germany at the end of the Korean War. He was Honorably Discharged in 1956. After his discharge, he attended college at Mayville State in North Dakota and graduated with a degree in English, Social Studies and Physical Education. Doris and Dale were blessed with two sons, Dan and Dean, both of which they were so proud of. Dale began his career in Underwood, Minnesota, where he coached and was honored by the students for being a faithful advisor, friend, teacher and coach. He also taught swimming, was lifesaving instructor and the Otter Tail Director of Water Safety in Fergus Falls. After Underwood, he went into the business world in Minot, Minneapolis and Houston, Texas, which included him working for Northern School Supply, 3M, a large carpet company and a National Manufacturing Company. He retired to Tucson, Arizona, where he and Doris lived for 16 years, enjoying the weather, traveling and their life together. Doris and Dale were married for 58 years. Doris became ill and he was by her side until her passing, which broke his heart. After her passing, his final move was going back to Rugby, where he was born, where Dorris is buried and he will be as well…bringing his life full circle. Dale is survived by his two sons, Dan (Ruth) Sollin of Tucson, Arizona and Dean Sollin of Lakeville, Minnesota; grandchildren, Ben, Blake, Kelli, Brook and Na-than; sister, Myrna (Robert) Stadheim of Sun Lake, Arizona; sister-in-law, Marlys Sollin of Devils Lake, North Dakota; many nieces, ne-phews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris; parents; brother, Gary Sollin; daughter-in-law, Lynn (Albright) Sollin and In-laws. Dale said we all have a legacy that defines ones life, he wants his to be remembered by his love for his wife, family and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Memorials are preferred in his name/honor to Tunbridge Lutheran Church Society, Calvary Evangelical Free Church or the Persilla Watts Cemetery, all in Rugby. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Rugby with burial and full Military Honors in the Persilla Watts Cemetery at Rugby.
