James Norman Sylte was born in Fergus Falls Minnesota February 18, 1939 to Cleon T. and Geline (Holbeck) Sylte. He passed away Sunday, August 11, 2024. He grew up on a farm S.E. of Underwood, Minnesota in Tordenskjold Township, at-tended District School in 1961 with a degree in accounting and business administration. He went on to join the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fort Carson and Fort Riley. Upon his discharge he returned to Underwood. Jim was injured during the service and was hospitalized at Fitzsimmon’s Army Hospital in Denver, CO and these in-juries left a lifetime impact. He then worked as a Social Worker for Otter Tail County. He became office manager for Fergus Monument. Jim then became self-employed selling Best Line. James was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, DAV, active with the Lions, enjoyed bowling at a competitive level, and was a dedicated Vikings and Twins fan. In his later years, he enjoyed reading. James is survived by his two children: Jim and Thomas; brother, Thomas (Mary) Sylte of Pensacola, FL; nephews, Jim Sylte of Texas and Andy Sylte of Florida; nieces, Lee Ann Hind of Illinois and Jill Sylte of Alabama. Preceeded in death by his parents, Cleon and Geline Sylte. Service was 11 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Olson Funeral and Cremation Chapel with Reverend Salim Kaderhai officiating. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment was at Sverdrup Cemetery in rural Underwood. Arrangements were provided by Olson Funeral and Cremation in Fergus Falls.
