Muriel Faith Foster – Battle Lake, MN

Muriel Faith Foster, 88, of Battle Lake, died Sunday, September 1, 2024 at Good Samaritan Home. Muriel was born June 6, 1936 to Henry and Delora (Christensen) Erickson in Fergus Falls. Muriel was Otter Tail County Dairy Princess in 1953 and Homecoming Queen in 1954, graduating Battle Lake High School in 1954. She attended college at Stout State College in Menomonie, WI and earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1958. July 26, 1958 Muriel married her high school sweet heart, Philip “Vern” Foster in Amor, MN. Muriel was a home economics teacher in Aitkin, MN from 1958-1966 and a teacher with the Minnesota Juvenile Correctional Facility in Sauk Centre, MN; retiring after 28 years in 1997. Vern and Muriel owned and operated Twin Lake Landing resort from 1978 to the present. She was a member of Minnesota Education Association, TOPS/KOPS, Boy Scout Leader, 4-H Leader, Luther League Leader at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre, Breast Cancer Survivor and Minnesota for Life participant. Muriel loved to sew, bake, entertain, shop for Christmas and take car trips with her family. She enjoyed watching high school and college sports especially women’s basketball and volleyball. She cared deeply for her students at the Minnesota Juvenile Correctional Facility, and the many 4-H’ers, Boy Scouts and Luther League kids she mentored. She enjoyed operating the resort and visiting with and looking after the many lifelong guests. In her later years she loved to play bridge with her friends and even learned how to use the computer so she could watch her beloved sports. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip “Vern”; mother, Delora; fa-ther, Henry; sister, Kathryn; and brother, Kenwood. Muriel is survived by her children, Todd (Alice) Foster of Kalamazoo, MI; Dirk (Susan) Foster of Buffalo, MN and Holly (David) Kratzenberg of LaGrange KY; grandchildren, Katelyn (Casey) Johnson, Malia (Wes) Foster-Glowitz and John Foster; great-grandchildren, Juniper Johnson and Thatcher Johnson; brother, Charles Erickson and sister, Virginia Kruger. Memorial service was 11 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church of Amor in Amor MN with Reverend Doug Stave officiating. Visitation from 9:30-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment was at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Amor, MN.
