Marlys Klimp – Ashby, MN

Marlys Klimp, 77 of Ashby died Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at the Ashby Living Center. Marlys Ann Klimp was born February 3, 1947 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota the daughter of Philip and Ruth (Johnson) Heald. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Marlys attended the Ashby Public School and graduating from the Ashby High School in 1965, and continued her education at the Alexandria Technical School in bookkeeping. Marlys and William “Bill” Klimp were married June 25, 1966 in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ashby. They lived in various locations in the area. Marlys was employed with Production Credit Association in Alexandria, the Ashby Farmers Elevator, before starting with the US Postal Service retiring as a rural mail carrier. Marlys, Bill along with their son, Brad started Klimp’s Kountry Korner which they operated a number of years. They enjoyed visiting with all the people and doing their repairs. Marlys enjoyed reading, traveling, snowmobiling, bowling, pottery, sewing, going for drives, and especially time spent with family and attending grandkids events. She was a member of the Redhats, Ashby Legion Auxiliary and the First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake. Marlys always was involved with the church circles. She is survived by two daughters, Holly Albert and Heidi (Corey) Mekalson both of Battle Lake; daughter-in-law, April (Chad) Widness of Brandon; 11 grandchildren, Gryphon (Katie), Archie and Teddy Lillis, Logan Lillis and Riston Albert; Spencer, Brodey, Jack and Max Mekalson; Chris (Maggie) Klimp, Mercede (Craig Larson) Klimp and Wilder; Lexus (Gavin Kugath) Klimp, Levi (Olivia) Klinkner, River and Cooper; sister, Phyllis Torgrimson of Fergus Falls; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Gene) Binnebose and Bonnie Hinton both of Alexandria; and by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Marlys was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; son, Brad; son-in-law, Ryan Albert; infant sister, Barbara Heald; two brothers-in-law, Carroll Win-slow and Johnny Torgrimson; and uncle, Jess Heald. Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Pelican Lake Cemetery in Ashby. Glende-Nilson Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Battle Lake is in charge of arrangements.
