Sherman Theodore Johnson – Blanche Lake, MN

With heavy hearts, the family of Sherman Theodore Johnson are mourning his death Monday, January 20, 2025. Sherman was born October 16, 1931 to Sigvart and Mable Johnson. They lived in Valley City where Sherman grew up as an only child. His father owned a shoe store in Valley City, ND before they moved to Breckenridge, MN. Sherman graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1948. He then attended State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND taking courses every winter for several years. Sherman entered the US Navy in 1951. He was stationed in Hawaii and served until 1953. Upon returning home from the Navy, he took over the ownership of Johnson Shoe Store. Sherman was the father of three kids: two daughters, Cary and Kay, and one son, Jay. He continued in the shoe business when he decided to buy Hager Shoe in Wahpeton, ND. He met Shirley Whitehead in 1980. After a long engagement they got married November 10, 2000. The family then added two more members to the family: Wendy and Michael. They spent the next 30 years between Mesa, AZ and Ottertail Lake, MN. Sherman claimed to have the best of two worlds. While being an avid pool player, Sherman also en-joyed hunting and fishing. He was a part of VDO Pool Player Association in Mesa, AZ and in Minnesota for 30 years. Sherman was a part of the Lions Club in Breckenridge, MN also. He loved to play pool league at Moorhead Billiards in Moorhead, MN. He was an active member of Breckenridge Lutheran Church in Breckenridge and Zion Lutheran Church in Amor, MN. His health started declining three years prior to his death. He was survived in death by: his wife, Shirley (Whitehead) Johnson; kids, Cary (John) Juvrud, Jay Johnson, Kay (Troy) Fyhrie, Wendy (Brian) Benjamin and Michael (Heni) Whitehead; grandkids, Amy (Richard), Amber (JD), Jordan (Tessa), Hanna (Max), Shaylee, Ross (Laura), Cassidy (Michael), Carli (Jaun) and Kaitlin; great-grandkids, Max, Brooklyn, Vivian, Lyric, Griffin, Penelope, Mckenzie, Greyson and Rio. He was preceded in death by parents, Sigvart and Mable Johnson; aunt, Emma Ouren; and grandchild, Michelle Grecco.
