Sandra Claire Ellen (Lien) Honrud – Battle Lake, MN

Sandra Claire Ellen (Lien) Honrud passed Tuesday July 1, 2025 under the care of Vivie Hospice at Good Samaritan Society Home of Battle Lake at the age of 74. Sandy was born February 26, 1951 to Lloyd and Ilene (Moen) Lien in Fergus Falls, MN. She grew up in rural Rothsay, attended Country School District 73 and Rothsay Schools, later receiving her diploma from Park Rapids High School. She went on to attend Wadena Technical College, receiving a diploma in Advertising, Sales and Display. Sandy was married to Don November 26, 1967. They would have celebrated their 58th anniversary this year. To this union three children were born, Angela, Troy and Dondra. Sandy worked side by side with her sister, JoAnn in commercial and residential housekeeping service. She then went on to work for Title Atlas in Battle Lake for 10 years doing ad and photography layouts. Sandy faced a lot of uphill battles in her life including health issues and the loss of her son. Her faith, determination and love for her family gave her the strength to fight on. She was a 22-year breast cancer survivor and recently fought a 6-year battle with COPD and lung cancer. Sandy enjoyed the simple joys of nature and wildlife, always making sure that her backyard friends had food, water and affection. She could take the smallest things and turn them into something magical by applying her loving touch. She loved to prepare the special request of her holiday stuffing and brownies whenever her family asked, and her and Don enjoyed making their homemade pizza and lasagna together. Sandy’s biggest and proudest joy in life was her family, her husband, their children, grandchildren and the newest arrivals of their first great-grandchildren. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Ilene Lien; and son, Troy Honrud. Sandy is survived by her husband, Don of Battle Lake; her daughter, Angie (Jeff) Overby of Paducah, KY; grandchildren, Kasie (Lucas) Layendecker and Kaitlynn Overby; great-grandchild, Lucy Layendecker; daughter, Dondra Honrud of St. Paul, MN; grandchildren, Haille Anderson and Elijah Anderson; a great-grandchild, Felix An-derson; siblings, Dennis (Barbara) Lien, JoAnn Dan-ielson (friend, Dan) and Rodney Lien; brother-in-law, Arvid (Connie) Honrud; sisters-in-law, Bev Honrud and Rosalie (Randy) Mattson; as well as several nieces and nephews along with numerous cousins. The family would like to express their appreciation of Lake Region Healthcare and Cancer Center, Battle Lake Good Samaritan Nursing home along with Vivie Hospice for their wonderful care. A special thank you to her niece, Shelly Sagerhorn for her extra loving attention. The family would also like to thank South Im-manuel Lutheran for accommodating Sandy’s wishes for her services as this was her church for her Baptism, Confirmation and marriage nuptials … fulfilling the circle of life. Service was 2 p.m. Friday, July 11 at South Immanuel Church of rural Rothsay, MN with Reverend Phil Tobin officiating. There was a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment was at Hamar Cemetery of Rothsay, MN. Arrangements were provided by Olson Funeral & Cremation in Fergus Falls. Online condolences may be sent to www.olsonfuneralh ome.com.
