Sharon A. (Hovelson) Twete – Moorhead, MN

Sharon A. (Hovelson) Twete, 77, Moorhead, formerly of Battle Lake, MN passed away peacefully at Farmstead Assisted Living in Moorhead, MN Friday, July 25, 2025. Sharon was born on April 11, 1948 to Richard and Audrey (Omberg) Hovelson. Sharon grew up in rural Hawley/Rollag and graduated from Hawley High School in 1966. She then attended Moorhead State University, where she earned a degree in elementary education, graduating in 1970. Right out of college, she began teaching in Fisher, MN where she remained from 1970–1972. During this time, she met Kenneth Twete and they were married May 27, 1972 at Trefoldighed Lutheran Church in Battle Lake, MN. After their marriage, Sharon and Kenny lived in Battle Lake, MN and Sharon began to teach at Battle Lake Public School. Sharon and Kenny were married for 31 years before his death March 31, 2003. Sharon loved teaching. She taught almost every grade over her 47-year career at the Battle Lake School District, where she took pride in her students’ growth. For Sharon, her students were her kids, and she cherished each one of them. Sharon had a talent for gardening and enjoyed the summer days tending her plants and flowers. She disliked snakes, often avoiding them or seeking higher ground, but welcomed visits from family dogs. When Sharon’s niece and nephews had children, she was regarded as a “bonus” grandparent to her great-nieces and nephews, and enjoyed watching them in their various activities. Before her stroke, Sharon joined Kim, Harlan, Diane, Tess and Cara on annual trips to places like Medora, Branson, De Smet, Duluth, Omaha, Yellowstone and several Laura Ingalls Wilder sites. She had a passion for the pioneer era. Following her stroke in 2015, Sharon relocated to Battle Lake Assisted Living, where she remained until August 2022. At that time, she transitioned to Farmstead Living in Moorhead, MN to receive additional care and be nearer to her family. Sharon enjoyed watching game shows, Pioneer Wo-man and the Andy Griffith Show, playing Bingo at Farmstead Living and speaking daily with her friend and neighbor, Geri Thorstenson. She is survived by her brother, Harlan (Diane) Hovelson of Hawley, MN; ne-phew, Duane (Tonia) Hovelson of Hawley, MN; niece, Kim (Todd) Veen of Harwood, ND; and nephew, Corey (Kristi) Hovelson of Buffalo, ND; 10 great-nieces and nephews, Tyler (fiancé, Abbe Putnamy) Veen of Pine Island, MN; Karyssa (Tyler) Mickelson of Hawley, MN; Cara (fiancé, Noah Klemetson) of Hawley, MN; Tess Veen (fiancé, John Stende) of Harwood, ND; Chase Hovelson of Hawley, MN; Carson, Courtney, Clay, Carly and Cole Hovelson of Buffalo, ND; and a few cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Twete; her parents, Richard and Audrey Hovelson; her brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Bette Hovelson; nephew, Roger Jr.; a niece who died at birth; and her in-laws, Carl and Ruth Twete. Memorial Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2025 at Trefoldighed Lutheran Church in rural Battle Lake, MN with visitation starting at 1 p.m. Interment will be at church cemetery.
