The Beaver Moon reached its peak illumination November 5, 2025 as the largest and last supermoon of the year, appearing brighter and larger than usual due to its proximity to Earth. The full moon phase occurred at 8:19 a.m. EST and the best viewing time was on the evenings of November 4 and 5, as it rose on the eastern horizon. A supermoon happens when a full moon coincides with perigee, the point in the moon’s orbit closest to Earth. This makes the moon appear larger and brighter than a typical full moon. The name comes from Native American and early colonial traditions, marking the time when beavers were busy preparing their winter lodges. Photo by Greg Gerharta
