Claude Virgil Blumer – Battle Lake, MN

Claude Virgil Blumer, 80, of Battle Lake, passed away Monday, January 19, 2026 at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. A funeral service for Claude was at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church in Battle Lake. A visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date in International Falls. Claude was born in Minneapolis, MN to Virgil and Elvera (Remer) Blumer. He grew up and attended school in International Falls, where while in high school, he met his future wife, his “Rose”, Margaret Amundson. The couple was united in marriage June 19, 1965 in International Falls and together they would be blessed with three daughters: Debbie, Nancy and Michelle. Claude was employed at Boise while living in International Falls. The family later relocated to Warroad, where he worked for Marvin Windows in the maintenance department. In 2005, Claude and Margaret retired and moved to Eagle Lake, where they had enjoyed many years at a family cabin before eventually building their home. Claude had a deep love for the outdoors and a strong sense of adventure. He en-joyed hunting and fishing in every season. As a licensed pilot, some joked he had an internal map of every highway. He would often fly family to the cabin on Eagle Lake, landing directly on the water with his float-equipped plane. Claude was also known for his humor, especially when flying friends or family-occasionally pretending the engine had stalled just to get a reaction. Kind-hearted and always willing to help, Claude enjoyed spending time at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church, where he was an active and faithful volunteer. Along with his good friend, Larris Grewe, Claude helped with the church’s annual fish fry, whether by bringing in the catch or lending a hand with cooking. Claude is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret; daughters, Nancy Anderson and Michelle (Pat) O’Loughlin; granddaughter, Valla O’Loughlin (fiancé, Ben Jaster); sister, Nancy Price; uncle, George Remer; and his favorite fishing partner, Larris Grewe. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Debbie; sister, Bonnie Blesi; and son-in-law, Ross Anderson. Arrangements by Glende-Nilson Funeral Home of Battle Lake.
